Steven Strunk, (D.M.A., M.S., The Juilliard School; B.M., Boston Conservatory of Music), professor of composition and music theory. Studied composition with Luciano Berio and Vincent Persichetti and later studied music theory with Milton Babbit and Allen Forte. Has had performances of his compositions sponsored by North-South Consonance in New York, the Contemporary Music Forum in Washington, and The National Association of Composers, USA in Los Angeles, among others, and recordings of them made on the Vienna Modern Masters and Opus One labels. Recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Music Center, and Meet the Composer. Author of articles, many about jazz theory, which have appeared in the Journal of Music Theory, Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Tijdschrift voor Muziektheorie, Annual Review of Jazz Studies, and in the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz. Presenter of papers at numerous conferences, including annual meetings of the Society for Music Theory and the Oxford Music Analysis Conference.
