As a public school music educator, Dr. Roberts has worked at all levels in instrumental music programs. His most recent assignment as a band and orchestra director at the middle school level in Howard County, Maryland resulted in an organization that grew from a band of 50 to a fully-staffed music department with performers in band, choir, and orchestra comprising 60% of the total student population of 850. Additionally, he was one of the co-conductors of both the Howard County Middle School Honors and GT bands.
Dr. Roberts received his B.M.E. from Murray State University, a M.Ed. from Towson University and a D.M.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park in horn performance and pedagogy. His primary teachers include Orrin Olson, Karen Thornton, and David Elliott. He has done additional studies with Wayne Barrington, David Bakkegard, and Phil Myers. He is also an active free-lance performer in the Baltimore/Washington area and has performed locally with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, and has been a regular member of the Washington Ballet Orchestra and the Baltimore Opera Orchestra.
