Model of Agamemnon's Set, by Set Designer Thomas Donahue

Shown here are two views of the prototype model of the opera's set to be erected on the Hartke Theatre stage, representing Agamemnon's palace.  The first view is frontal; the second shows the set from above and behind.  A winding staircase begins upstage left, moving toward the center, when it turns downstage, under the massive portals of the palace, to emerge onto a prominent platform.  Thus, it is possible to observe characters' entrances and exits both before and after passing through the front palace gate.  Hangings and tapestries adorn the space vertically; lighting effects will differentiate the black-and-white hues of the model.  A compact altar is shown just to the right of the central staircase.  Small models of figures represent scale.
